Description

This deluxe eagle pommel US Army officer's sword dates to the first decade of the 19th century, and was an English export to the USA. Decorations on the blade are of fine detail, and have quite a variety of imagery. Repeated motif of cannon may suggest a mounted artillery officer's weapon; so do the flaming bombs composing the knuckle bow. There are two period repairs to the knuckle-bow, one near the counter-guard, the other at the juncture with the pommel. Massive blade is 30" long, inscribed Warranted, and struck with the number 12 on the back. This may have been a product of the Ketland family, judging by the style of the eagle's head pommel.
