AMERICAN FLINTLOCK PISTOL BY T.KETLAND & CO. CA.1800

Description

This American flintlock pistol has a massive brass barrel which is just shy of 9", and is massive .7 caliber. The lock is marked T.Ketland & Co., barrel is struck with British view marks and a Birmingham proof, and is marked London. Lock functions fine, and the pull is tight. The wood is split on the outside bottom of the stock, which doesn't appear to go through the stock. The patina is deep and uniform.

Pistols of this type were sold to the United States by the Ketland family in the late 1700s-early decades of the 1800s. This particular piece, with its giant .7 caliber barrel was more than sufficient in man-stopping power.

This is the biggest Ketland pistol I've seen; it measures 15" overall.
