Description
This early 19th c. American officer's sword features a hilt with the distinct style of the eagle head pommel associated with the Albany silversmith Isaac Hutton. A silver-hilted sword with a near-identical pommel, hallmarked by Hutton was sold by Christie's New York in 1999 [Sale 8239, Lot 1] .
Blade is 28",  decorated with military and floral motifs, the US flag, strands of arms, etc. Blade has a nice uniform patina, and is straight and true.
The guard has loosened up over time, so has the grip ferrule. Horn grip has chipped at the top. Eagle head is unique, parrot-like, and nicely hand-chased.
