AMERICAN EAGLE POMMEL SWORD BY BOLTON-RICHARDS-UPSON, CA.1805

$0.00

Description

This very early 19th c. Bolton-Upson eagle pommel sword is mounted with an unusually long 33" spadroon blade, decorated along half its length with fine blue and gilt symbols of America, along with the WARRANTED and the importer's name, Richards Upson & Co. New York. The style of the Eagle's head is attributed to a London cutler Bolton, well-described by Mowbray. Traces of silver-wash remain on the hilt. Blade was period-mended; a smithing job well-done. This is a scarce style of the War of 1812 American officers swords.
