Description
This American artillery officer's spadroon dates ca.1805. The  casting quality of the open-beaked eagle pommel and the flaming grenades knuckle bow is very good, with a great deal of fine detail. Gilding of the hilt is in fine condition. Blade is 30" long, blued, gilded, and decorated in the American vernacular and military motifs. Scabbard leather has shrunk over time, and is now about 1/3" short. Judging by the  character of the hilt, this sword was made in London or Birmingham.
