US NAVY M1852 OFFICERS SWORD CA.1861

This is a recent estate find from a Rhode Island home. The blade is 29", with rust towards the foible, and needs a good gentle cleaning. Blade is etched with naval symbols, is maker-marked and inscribed IRON-PROOF. Scabbard has lost the middle band and the drag, has a period repair to the leather and has shrunk a bit, about 3 cm. short of the blade. The hilt is in fine shape, with some looseness. A good, honest, and affordable Civil War Union naval officer's sword.
