This outstanding American Staff Officer's sword dates to the last decade of 19th century. Blade is maker-marked by the Boston cutler G.W.Simmons, a firm which specialized in fine quality, exquisitely decorated presentation swords.
31" blade is supremely etched and gold-washed with patriotic and military motifs. I find the profile of the Indian princess especially endearing. Blade shows some loss to the gilding on one side. Scabbard mounts are of fantastic quality, intricate and done in fine detail.
This wonderful sword dates to the period spanning the Indian Wars and the Spanish-American War
