This Model 1841 US Navy officer's sword is mounted with a 70 cm long pipe-back blade. The shape and style of the eagle's head pommel strongly suggests that it was made by the famous American sword-maker Nathan Ames. The quality of the cast and hand-chased pommel and back-piece is quite excellent. Blade has acquired a nice dark patina, no decorations are visible. Both folding guards are long gone. there is a chip in the feathered bone grip. These swords were only in use for 11 years, from 1841 to 1852, only to be replaced by the M1852 naval swords.
