This Swiss Zuricher grenadier hanger dates to the mid-18th century, and is mounted with a 59 cm long blade, which shows extensive battle scars. Blade is nicely engraved with the symbol of Zurich - a Lion Bearing a Sword, along with the motto FUR GOTT UND DER VATERLAND. Original scabbard is in outstanding condition. These swords were used by the Swiss Armies for 50+ years, from the mid-1700s to the Helvetian Republic. Switzerland was an early and significant theater in the Napoleonic Wars. A scarce piece!
