This outstanding Spanish ca.1800 hussar sword is mounted with a 88 cm blade, both sides of which are inscribed in Spanish - NO ME SAQUES SIN RASON_NO ME ENBRAINES SIN HONOR, which means DO NOT TAKE ME OUT WITHOUT REASON_DO NOT SHEATHE ME WITHOUT HONOR.
This motto became popular on Spanish rapier and broadsword blades in the mid-1600s, and didn't go out of style until the late 1700s. This blade was most probably forged and decorated in Solingen, in the Spanish tradition.
The style of the hilt points to the region comprising Bavaria, Saxony, Bohemia and Poland.
Sword is very tight, and shows a great uniform patina. A wonderful late 18th century Spanish Hussars sword that ostensibly originates to the Colonial Mexico!
