This rare matched pair of korbschlagers bears a maker's mark on both blades -

in two horizontal lines. Kesselbach was a minor Heidelberg cutler from around 1875 until the early 1900s. Hilts are numbered 34 and 35, respectively. Swords are 110 cm long, blades are 88 cm long. Both blades are nicely etched with military and talismanic motifs, and the arms of the City of Heidelberg, a Crowned Lion. Swords are being offered as acquired, i.e. dirty. I only just oiled the blades. Both swords should stand some careful cleaning.Both blades are blunt, one is a bit wavy at the foible, and should straighten fine. The University of Heidelberg, one of the oldest in Europe, was a cradle of scientific thought for hundreds of years, the Germanic equivalent of Harvard, Oxford, or Cambridge. Germany's wealthiest, most elite families sent their sons there for many generations.
