An infrequently-seen sword, this Bayerische Staatliche Polizei schwert, dates to the late 19th-early 20th c., and was a product of the famed Alex Coppel manufacture in Solingen. It's 67 cm overall, with 54 cm long double-edged blade, which shows evidence of period sharpening. I strongly suspect this sword was a WWII GI bring-back. The scabbard leather is scratch-engraved Russell Hardin August 14,1945, the locket says N.R. HARDIN GOLDENDALE WASHINGTON. A nice, affordable sword for a German sword collector, or a police weapon collector, with the provenance which merits further research.
