This rare French Chasseurs a Pied officer's sword dates to the decade spanning the last years of the reign of Louis XVI to the Derectoire/Consulat period. It's mounted with a 68 cm. blade, which is decorated with various engraved strands of arms and military trophies. Blade has a acquired a nice dark patina. The hilt is nice and tight, with the top of the pommel decorated with raised hand-chased sunflower, and the central medallion of the cross-guard with a palm leaf wreath. The sword is very solid, with no play or looseness. Ebony grip has a couple of age stress lines. An excellent early French Revolutionary Wars period sword!
