This World War 1 French Vengeur de 1870 was made by Pataud Co. in Thiers, and features the standard 17 cm. long blade, which is in superb original condition, with only minor darkening at the point. It has never been sharpened, polished, or otherwise altered. Wooden handle has a small period chip. Guard and scabbard retain much of their original silver paint. Leather covering of the steel scabbard is in excellent condition. This Model 1916 knife has no ferrule between the handle and the guard, which indicates early production.
