Description

This officer's small-sword dates to the mid-1700s and is mounted with a fine colichemarde blade which is 85 cm long. Blade is decorated on both sides of the forte with military motifs and rococo ornaments. Brass boat hilt is very well executed with pierced work, and features various martial attributes on each side of the boat-shaped guard and the rest of the hilt. Swords with this style of hilt were popular among the officer class of the mid-1700s. Military attribution is further cemented with the colichemarde blade, which all but disappeared from civilian small-swords by that time, and were almost exclusively used on officer weapons.
A very fine officer's sword from the Seven Year War period!
