Description

his European hussar-hilted saber hails from the late 18th or early 19th centuries. Massive 67 cm long, 4 cm wide blade is in the shape of the so-called "Madonna" blades of the Hungarian hussars, with a pronounced curve and 17 cm long false edge. There is some light pitting of the metal towards the blade's point. Single wide fuller runs from a rudimentary ricasso just short of the point. Sword is in in fine condition overall, and very tight. A small piece of the leather is missing from the grip, exposing the wooden grip wrapped with twine. Blade point protrudes slightly out of the scabbard chape, due to leather shrinkage. There is what appears to be a small maker's mark at the ricasso, under one of the langets, but I cannot make it out.
