Fascine knives like this were used for clearing and shaping tree branches for military fortifications, as well as for utilitarian chores. Blade is stamped with maker's mark F.K., and a series of 8 pin-wheels or sun-shaped symbols running along the back of the blade. Tang is secured to the handle pommel in a rat-tail fashion. Top of the pommel contains a small incised letter E. Blade is 19.5 cm long and 6 cm wide at the widest point. Handle is 19 cm long, sufficient to grasp it with both hands. The patina on this piece is just great!
