Description
This British Trafalgar period naval officer's dirk is mounted with a curved 12.5" undecorated blade of fighting quality. The hilt is well done in cast and gilt bronze, and the pommel is in the shape of a snarling lion's head, showing his sharp teeth. The grip has some age shrinkage chips, the patina on the hilt is beautiful. Much of the gilding survives on the lion's head, less so on other parts of the hilt. Upper scabbard fittings are long gone. The dirk is very tight, with no looseness to the hilt. A very nice British Napoleonic naval dirk.
