BRITISH NAVAL OFFICERS FIGHTING SWORD CA.1780-1800

$0.00

Description
This British Royal Navy officer's service sword dates to the last quarter of the 18th century. It's mounted with a plain, 67.5 cm long, gently curved Montmorency style blade. The grip is shaped-to-hand ebony, vertically scrolled. The hilt is of gilded brass, with a large loop guard and a faceted back piece. The furniture of the hilt retains a good amount of original gilding. The sword lanyard ring at the pommel is original. Grip has some light play to it.
A very nice late 1700s loop-hilted English naval officers sword from a period spanning the American Revolution to the Battle of Cape St.Vincent, the Golden Age of the Fighting Sail.
