This Crimean War commemorative ribbon is 23 x 8 cm, and was crafted of finest quality silk. The execution of the subject matter is outstanding, with a Scottish Highlander standing next to a French Zouave. Some major events of the war are mentioned - Alma, Bomarsund, Inkermann.
There is what appears to be a maker's mark Grangier Fres, Ogier.
Some minor losses do not greatly detract from the scarcity of this piece. Based on the English pronunciation of the country names, this ribbon was most probably made for the British market. Textiles from the Crimean War period are very rare.
