This World War I British 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's fighting sword is mounted with a 31" blade, etched with Wilkinson's proprietary designs, along with a proof slug and a serial number 47421, which places it in the 1914-1916 date range.
Blade has acquired a nice patina, and has no active rust or pitting, with some sparse dark spots here and there. Sword is contained in its original field service scabbard with a frog. The scabbard inner wooden core has tightened over time, and is now a snug fit for the blade. One must be careful not to jam the blade all the way into the scabbard, as it will be difficult to remove!
The basket hilt is in fine condition, with period wear. Sword is very tight, with no looseness, and is an affordable authentic WWI British officer's service weapon.
