This superb British 1821 Pattern Royal Artillery officer's sword belonged to a Scottish officer, which is indicated by the thistle designs on the blade. The name of the officer can be found in one of the British Army Lists, due to the lucky presence of the gentleman's initials and the family crest, which are etched on the blade. All of the blade decorations are quite stunning, prominent and intact. Generally, the Royal Artillery blades were the most decorated in all of the Royal Army officer's swords, and this one is not an exception. Made by the famous and respected London maker Edward Thurkle & Sons, this particular sword dates ca.1876-1899, based on the address at the ricasso - Denmark St, Soho.
