This 5-ball British Army officer's spadroon dates to the early 1790s. Iron-mounted hilt is terminated in an urn-shaped pommel, which is a very uncommon feature, as the vast majority of the examples of this style have a pillow pommel. The very end of the knuckle-bow, where it enters the pommel, is long gone. Straight, 83cm-long blade is engraved at the forte with military and floral designs, once filled with gold foil. Blade is pitted at the foible. Grip has a couple of age chips, otherwise is in fine shape.
