$0.00

Description
This one of a kind USN commissioned or petty officer's sea chest or trunk dates approximately ca.1925-1935. Decorated with hand-painted 46 star American flag. eagle towering over the pre-WWII minesweeper insignia, and named to F.B. ROSE U.S.N.  Varnish was applied over the painted surface, and over the decades has formed a beautiful craquelure.  Hardware is marked NORWALK LOCK CO. Norwalk Lock Company was operational in Norwalk, Connecticut from the 1850s to 1929.

Constructed of solid hardwood, the chest measures 32"x16.5"x13", and is very heavy.
Researching the US Navy service records is not possible due to the archive closures [another sad side effect of the COVID-19 epidemic] . There is age wear and scratches on the wood and the painted surface, which acquired a nice uniform patina. A wonderful, unique example of American sea-going folk art!
