Description
This Whitney 1st Model, 5th type, .31 caliber pocket revolver dates ca.1860, and bears a serial number 2593, stamped on several parts, including the matching original grips. It shows signs of prior cleanings, and only vestiges of blue in protected areas. Cylinder scene is nice and intact. Cylinder rotates fine when the revolver is cocked and is pointed downward, the hand assembly part might need some lihgt attention, or just set right. All the parts are original, and revolver appears un-altered mechanically, save for the filed down front sight pin, to aid in quick drawing, no doubt. This Whitney was most probably a Civil War private purchase piece. An early competitor of Colt, it was well-liked by the officers and men who owned one.
