Description
This American artillery officer's sword in the Frederick Widmann-style dates ca.1825-1835. 31" long spadroon blade is decorated with the Federal Eagle, flags, strands of arms, Liberty Caps, oak leaves and acorns. Blade has a pleasing dark patina, without any rust or pitting. Yellow-mounted hilt contains all the characteristics of Wildman's Philadelphia atelier. Grips are checkered bone. Scabbard initially had two carrying rings, which were period-removed, and the sword was worn with the shoulder belt, probably by a mounted artillery officer.
