This Spanish Machete del Ejercito de Ultramar belonged to a foot officer in Cuba and Puerto Rico during the tumultuous last decade of the 19th century.
Original belt frog and sword knot with a cord are still present. Blade is 63 cm long and 3.2 cm wide, marked No.87. Area near the blade tip shows some period sharpening. Scabbard leather has acquired a beautiful patina, and is decorated along its length.
The whole piece is untouched, in a true "sleeper" condition! A fantastic machete, dating from around the time of the Cuban Insurrection to the Spanish-American War!
