This very uncommon Spanish officer's mameluke-hilted saber dates to the middle of 19th century. Hilt retains generous amount of silver-plate, grips are made out of some type of exotic wood. Massive unfullered 82 cm long blade has nicely patinated, with a sprinkle of pitting towards the point. Blade is maker marked Fca GARRIDO TOLEDO. Fca obviously stands for FABRICA, i.e. Factory in English. Garrido was a family of famous Toledo swordsmiths, known since the Middle Ages. An outstanding piece!
