AMERICAN CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE FIELD OFFICER'S SWORD
Available in the following categories:
This sword exhibits many identifiable traits of the Southern sword makers. Casting quality of the hilt is rough, with poorly defined detail of the decoration, especially evident in the laurel leaf designs running around the pommel. Blade is straight for most of its length, and tapers slightly upwards at the foible. Blade is 31" long and a little over an inch wide at the ricasso. Unstopped, crudely hammered fuller starts 6/8" from the hilt and runs until 8 1/2" from the point, on either side. Blade is hand-forged, and not rolled. I will reserve my judgment as to a particular maker.
Condition is as seen on photos. Hilt is tight and strong, with no looseness, blade has some dark patches, otherwise is straight and true.
