This attractive Chinese Jian sword dates to the second half of 19th century. Short jians of this type have been described as being in use of the Yangtze River pirates. Despite its size, the sword is very hefty. Double-edged hand-forged blade is about 40 cm-long, and is clean, with no rust or pitting. The grip is made of horn, and has a lanyard slot. The furniture is brass, nicely decorated with traditonal motifs and fantastic creatures - dragons, bats, etc. The sword is very tight, and fits nicely in its scabbard, which has split along the edges. A nice Qing Dynasty Chinese jian.
