This beautiful Saxonian Modele 1824 infantry or artillery company officer's sword dates ca. 1830. Blucher-type hilt is deeply patinated, with no active rust or pitting. Leather wrapped grip is quite intact, with leather being somewhat dry and shrunken. Gold-colored twist wire on the grip is nice and tight. The real beauty of this rarely-encountered sword is the blade. Made by one of the premier sword-makers of that time, Christoph Von Keller, who was the Mayor of Solingen at the time, it's superb in every aspect. Triple-decorated with blue and gilt, with only superficial scoffs and minor dark spots, this 83 cm-long, deeply curved blade is a wonderful example of the truly unique Solingen craftsmanship. Scabbard is in excellent condition, and retains all of its black japanning finish, with only some minor wear. A top of the line piece for a serious collector.
