This American Revolutionary War period French Model 1767 grenadier hanger measures 29" overall, with a robust 23" blade inscribed on the back M=ture R=le D'alsace. Knuckle bow is marked with the inspector's poincon 'crowned R'. Blade retains almost all of its factory polish, the sword has a nice, solid feel.
Short swords of this model were carried by the French Grenadiers De Marine as well as the Continental infantry troops during the years of the American Revolutionary War. This sword was purchased in an estate sale in Milford, Connecticut some years back.
