This Danish Jægerhirschfænger M.1801 hirschfaenger dates to the first decade of the 1800s, to the Napoleonic Wars. Overall measurement 75 cm, stout blade measures 62 cm, and shows shallow pitting through-out, with no active rust or corrosion. The sword feels very tight, with no looseness at all, the hilt has acquired a nice patina, the wire wrapping of the grip is also original. The knuckle guard is secured to the lion's head pommel by a screw, also original to the sword. The back of the blade is maker-marked, the quillon is stamped with the military proof mark.
An excellent, expressive early Napoleonic sword of the Danish elite infantry troops!
