This unusual brass-mounted yatagan dates to the 19th c. The straight bi-fulllered blade is 58 cm. long, the yatagan is 70 cm. long overall. Straight-bladed yataghans are rather uncommon.
The blade of this particular example came from a 1700s European cavalry sword. Blade has a 17 cm.-long false edge, and has acquired a beautiful uniform age patina. The hilt is in fine shape, and is decorated with floral petals on a hatched background throughout. A nice touch are polished horn inserts between the tang and the two halves of the grip.
An unusual, and very attractive sword, which probably originates from the Ottoman Balkans. It's lively, nicely-balanced, and is suitable for cut and thrust, much more useful than the traditionally-bladed examples.
