This Eagle pommel American officer's sword dates ca.1825-1835 and is mounted with a 29.5" blade which is decorated with engraved gold-filled designs about half way to the point. Remnants of bluing are present. Designs include military trophies, canon and florals. Scabbard is also decorated in the front. Back of the scabbard shows a break midway, which doesn't extend to the front. Hilt features two langets, front one is decorated with the Federal Eagle and shield, back one is plain. Back-piece of the hilt is a bit bowed out, and grip is extending beyond it in one spot.
Eagle pommels of this style are generally considered to be of French manufacture for import to the US. This particular style was probably made by the Berger Co.in Paris. A very nice, untouched and affordable American artillery officer's 1821 regulation sword!
