This nice 1805 Pattern British naval officer's spadroon dates to the first decade of the 1800s. White grip indicates that it belonged to an officer of the rank of the commander and above. It is mounted with a 75 cm. long blade that is heavily encrusted, with only vestiges of the blue and gilt decorations remaining due to the salt water environment. The hilt is very good, with a shaped to hand grip that has split from age on the reverse side. Lion's head pommel is very nicely hand-chased. Both langets are engraved with fouled anchors. Sword is 87 cm. long overall, and remains a good, expressive veteran of the days of the Trafalgar.
