This English hanger is of the style popular with the British and Colonial officers at the time of the American Revolutionary War. Iron hilt is of the slotted style, with a gadrooned globular pommel, grip is ebony, retains all of it's original brass ribbon wrapping, and has chips on top and bottom. There are two original leather washers between the blade, guard, and grip, a seldom seen period feature. Blade is montmorency, plain, 26" long. Original leather scabbard is decorated with X designs, and has age-shrunk about 5 mm short of the blade. The sword is very solid, with minor play to the ebony grip.
A superb, untouched American Revolutionary War officer's hanger with the rare original scabbard!
