This wonderful Machete Official de Infanteria del Ejercito en Cuba dates to the last decade of 19th century. 75 cm blade retains most of its original plating. Hilt is in fabulous condition, with original untouched patina. Scabbard has a weakness near the top, with some losses to the stamped decorations on the leather. The stitching on the back of the scabbard has split along its length.
These Spanish foot officers' machetes for Cuba are unique, one of a kind pieces. This particular example, by the FERNANDO ESSER ELBERFELD, is of the more elaborate, better quality nature, and belonged to a Spanish Colonial officer who fought the Cuban rebels at any point of the 1890s, and later the Americans, in the dense Cuban jungle, during the Spanish-American War.
I find these Cuban machetes very enjoyable, good quality weapons, the dinosaurs of the age of the fighting sword.
