This French cavalry officer's sword dates ca.1785-1795, and is mounted with a 84 cm blade, which retains vestiges of the blue and gilt, and has nicks along the edge. The pommel is in the shape of the Roman helmet. Upper half of the knuckle bow has been period-removed, which allowed for a quicker grasp. The scabbard has a small split along the seam on one side of the throat, and the throat piece is long gone. Hilt is loose. Overall this is a satisfying, honest late Louis XVII or early French Revolutionary War Hussar officer's sword, and is attractively priced.
