This early British Georgian officer's fighting sword bears a robust 63 cm long blade in the Montmorency style. Blade is engraved on either side with the crowned initials GR [GEORGIUS REX]. The hilt is of rarely encountered form, with a green grip, which bears several age fractures. A similarly hilted sword exists and was made by the famous London cutler Cullum. Another known sword with the heart motif to the knuckle bow belonged to a Hudson's Bay Company officer and is pictured in Leslie Southwick's book on London silver-hilted swords. Heart-shaped cut-out hilt decorations are also associated with the East India Company officers.
