EUROPEAN HUSSAR OFFICER'S SWORD IN FINE BLUE AND GILD CA.1800

This European hussar officer's saber dates ca.1795-1810. Hilts of this style were popular amongst the European officer class at that time, and the sword, which is quite North European in style, could be Polish, French, or from one of the Germanic States, as well as Austria.
The condition of the sword and the scabbard is quite outstanding. Blade is 87 cm long, 32 mm wide at the ricasso, and is nicely blued and gilded for almost half its length. A generous amount of decoration remains untouched.
Blade is maker marked with a cartouche B*S*B. Scabbard shoe is also marked, with either the maker's mark or else a regimental designation. Sword feels very tight, light, and is supremely balanced. An outstanding, investment-quality Napoleonic piece.
