AMERICAN SILVER-MOUNTED SMALL FIGHTING DIRK
Available in the following categories:
NO LONGER AVAILABLE

This small fighting dirk dates to the first half of the 19th century. Place of origin - possibly Philadelphia or Baltimore. Literature [Tuite, Hartzler] ascribes this particular style as a fighting dirk used by sailors.

Both the dirk and the scabbard are mounted entirely in good quality silver. Grip is nicely checkered, with no breaks or chips. Condition is quite outstanding, with a good patina. Overall length is 20 cm/8". Blade is 11 cm/4.5" long and fits in the scabbard loosely.
As with most dirks of this style and age, the construction wasn't overly sturdy when new, and there is some play between parts.
